UK Music Jobs

http://uk.music-jobs.com/

As you might be aware I am both musician and digital promoter and I wanted to share with you one of the most useful website I have found for sourcing work in both fields.

UK Music Jobs is “The premier online community for UK music industry professionals seeking jobs in music.”

If you are looking for work as a musician you can upload your CV and Audio samples to be heard by thousands of artists/managers/fixers or search the jobsboard for work based on your instrument and location.

I have been using the site for a few months now and it has presented me with some great opportunities and allowed me to develop some great contacts within the industry.

Once in a While!

Once again I have neglected my blog but alas there is little going on in the world of KG Promotion. I am again focusing on earning a living as a musician and when you only have four strings on your bow it can be quite a challenge.

I interviewed for a digital promotion position at Bronzerat Records www.bronzerat.com but Edinburgh festival got in the way and I spent most of August performing for the Rex Roman Pink Floyd Show www.rexroman.com and watching comedy shows left right and centre. Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams is a must see!

Struggling on regardless things are looking up and new opportunities are presenting themselves so its time to earn some money!

Keeping up to date.

I haven’t really done that well keeping everything up to date, I realised that I hadn’t posted on twitter for 9 days which is an eternity in twitter time.

Other peoples blogs have been the word of the day. I’m following several music bloggers who all talk about slightly different topics from very different perspectives.

If you are reading this on Blogger you can find these blogs on my profile but if your reading this on WordPress here is a list for you.

Bass

I have been a bit preoccupied this week with my other job. I’m a bass player and a few opportunities have popped up which have drawn my focus.

There are function gigs on the horizon and we need a new keyboard player so auditions are tonight and the rest of this week. I’m auditioning for Xenomania tomorrow which should be a crack and I’m going back to a second round of auditions for another function band on Sunday.

Enquiries keep coming in for KG PR which is encouraging and I have been talking to talent agent Dan Leigh from Manchester who might have some artists for me.

I have also come across AddThis which is very useful but I havn’t got it to work on MySpace yet. I wont give up though.

Cheers for now.

Promotion Trail

Just a quick one to say I have been on the promotion trail for the past week sorting where and how to publicise KG Promotion for best effect.

I have set up a few of the social networking services and have popped a list at the bottom with links to us everywhere. Obviously some things are a little empty at the moment but as things build up I will add more pictures and videos.

I am currently working on a plan for a pop girl band, to be honest it’s not a genre I have worked with before but we will see how it pans out and what I can come up with.

Which Digital Distributor?

“CD Baby vs Tunecore vs Reverb Nation”

Choices, choices, choices!

As part of KG Promotion we are offering to arrange your digital distribution for you, to do this we will be utilising one of these companies. I have dealt with both CD Baby and Tunecore for distribution both are very reliable and provide a great service. A representative from Tunecore was even reading my band blog, so when I mentioned a minor problem he advised me how I could resolve it and offered his personal assistance if that didn’t work!

I haven’t yet dealt with Reverb Nation as a distributor and I can’t help thinking that Tunecore would make you better off. Despite a higher setup cost for a 10 track album delivered to all stores the yearly renewal is $15 cheaper!

I will break out my calculator and do some maths tonight and report back tomorrow with definitive costs!

It’s not all about money though and both stores and service need to be considered. They all deal with the big ones iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody and eMusic in fact that is ALL Reverb Nation deal with.

Tunecore will add

IMVU, Lala, Shockhound and Amie Street

CD Baby will add

Verizon V-Cast, Liquid Digital Media, PayPlay, Audio Lunch Box, Groupie Tunes, Ruckus, Amie Street, Inprodicon, Great Indie Music, Tradebit, Didiom, rVibe, Lala and Spotify. (I am loving Spotify, its genius but seeing as Spiral Frog went the way of the Dodo can it really work)

I can’t help feeling that CD Baby smacks of a better deal even though they take charge $20 for UPC Barcode, take a 9% cut from digital and $4 from physical sales they seem to do so much more for you. Plus they website if chock full of useful information to help you promote your band!

Setting Up!

Well this is proving to be quite tricky, I've been trying to create nice buttons to use on the MySpacebut they have fought me at every step.
I think I'm there now anyway! I have posted a little information about KG Promotion on the MySpace. It's only the first draft but it goes a little something like this.

"KG Promotion is your starting point to building and maintaining an online global network of fans for your music.

Specialising in digital environments; we will arrange the release of your product to download services including iTunes and Napster. We set you up with the latest services and tools to promote your music while providing advice and support to help make the most of the opportunities available.

To keep you informed and up-to-date with the very latest developments and new features a weekly newsletter and blog will be published online and can be e-mail directly to you."

That is enough for now, I will create more and post again when it gets a little more finalised!
